Baptisms and Blessings
Baptism is an opportunity for you to give thanks to God for the gift of your child and to make promises to bring him or her up within the Christian faith. It is a time when the baby is named before God as they are marked with a sign of the cross. They are then given symbolic gifts and a candle as a reminder that Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
This usually takes place during the Sunday morning service and the congregation also promise to support and encourage you.
If, like many people today, you are wary of making baptismal promises that you feel are hard to keep but still want to give thanks for the gift of your child then this can be done in an equally meaningful service of naming, thanks and blessing.
If you would like a special service for your child, please discuss it with an Elder.
