Ickenham Churches’ Bereavement Support Group
Following a funeral taken by one of the ministers from Ickenham United Reformed Church or St Giles’ Church, bereaved families are offered a visit by a fully trained member of the Bereavement Support Group (BSG). This one-to-one support is usually given in the home of the bereaved person.
Drop in for the Bereaved
At 2pm on the third Monday of each month, a drop-in is held in the St Giles’ Church Hall when anyone who is bereaved can come to talk informally with some visitors over a cup of tea. This is open to anyone in the community who is affected by a loss that has occurred recently or a long time ago. The dates of the drop-in sessions are advertised each month in the Ickenham Church News. Just come along or ring the Rectory on 01895 622 970 if you would like to talk to someone first.
Memorial Service for the Bereaved
It is our custom to hold a Memorial Service Remembering Loved Ones on a Sunday afternoon in May in St Giles’ Church, with invitations sent to those who have been bereaved during the preceding year. Due to lockdown and Covid restrictions, it was not possible to arrange services in 2020 or 2021.
With the lifting of restrictions, on Sunday 8th May 2022 there will be a service at St Giles’ Church. Due to the large number of people who may want to come, this year there will be two services – one starting at 2.30pm and the other at 4.30pm. At these services the names of those who have died between the beginning of March 2019 and the end of February 2022, whose funerals were conducted during this time, will be read out. Members of the Bereavement Support Group will be present.
After each service the congregation will be invited for refreshments in the St Giles’ Church Hall.
Anyone who would like to attend will be welcome. Invitations to one designated service have already been posted.
