A prayer for Holy Week

Holy Lord Jesus,

in this week of your immersion in pain,

help us to recognise and accept the many ways

in which we make your story all about us;

our disputatiousness,

our boasting, our betrayals,

our failure to pay attention, our aggression,

our lack of courage, our carelessness with the truth,

our contemptuousness,

our fruitless despair.

Draw us back moment by moment

to a recognition of your kingship, your innocence,

your complete self-giving.

Immerse us in wonder, love and praise

as we wait for what may emerge

from your great suffering.

Holy Lord Jesus,

This is your week.

Here we are.

We are waiting, watching, listening.

We will not turn away.

Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!

Peace in Heaven and glory in the highest heaven!
